11 steps to a happier, healthier & simpler life

Here is the best advice I can give to help you live a happier, healthier and simpler lifestyle. I'm a longtime minimalist, a longtime vegan, and a lover of all things simple, but there are several steps I've taken over the years to get to where I am today. 

 

I'm not going to reinvent the wheel here, I'm just going to tell you the top ways that have helped me live a simpler and healthier lifestyle and also going give you some of my favorite inspirational websites and books for you to get more information. Enjoy!

1. spend time in nature

Spend more time in nature, enjoying the scenery and breathing fresh air. Studies have shown this improves your mental health and happiness. Humans are healthier in nature, not in little boxes.


2. be mindful

Learn to live in the now and be happy. To be fully present in the current moment and not worry about the past or the future. You can train your brain to not go into autopilot mode so often that you can be fully aware and appreciate life.


3. simplify

Simplify your life and embrace minimalism. Declutter and decompress. Only own things what you need so that you can focus on what you love. "Our life is frittered away by detail... simplify, simplify." Henry David Thoreau


4. get a tiny wardrobe

You don't need as many clothes as you think you do. So downsize your wardrobe into just the basics and you'll feel lighter, less cluttered, and make travel way easier. Layer, mix and match, it's easy.


5. go plastic-free

Plastic is the devil and it's ruining the planet. It's made from non-renewable fossil fuels, it's full of harmful toxins and chemicals that disrupt your body's hormones, it's polluting the oceans and killing sea life, and it doesn't degrade!


6. go chemical-free

Toxic chemicals like chemical dyes, dioxin and formaldehyde can cause skin, immune and respiratory problems. Wear organic clothing. You can easily make all your own natural and non-toxic cleaning and personal care products and it's fun.


7. aim for zero-waste

Humans generate an extraordinary amount of waste that goes to landfills, creates green house gases, pollutes our oceans, and destroys the planet. Be mindful of your consumerism. Avoid disposables. Reduce, reuse, recycle, compost, and aim for zero waste.


8. downsize to tiny

Declutter, organize, and downsize your stuff and your life into a simpler space. Living tiny lets you focus on what matters. You can apply these principles to your life anywhere, or you can even build a tiny house with your own hands and live anywhere you want, mortgage free!


9. do digital detoxes

Our addiction to our digital devices is detrimental to our health, everything from our eyesight to our memory to our waistlines. Clear your desktop. Reduce your apps. Take regular breaks away from the internet and all your electronic devices. Make time to disconnect.


10. eat more raw foods

Get healthier by eating more whole, uncooked and unprocessed foods, full of nutrients. Cooking destroys the enzymes in food and can also cause chemical changes that can turn into toxins, free radicals, and carcinogens. 

 


11. go vegan

Going vegan is the ultimate healthiest thing you can do for your body, for the animals, and for the earth. Eat a plant-based diet, don't use animals as products, experiments, or entertainment. They are our fellow earthlings. And they need our help. So does the planet.


I think these are all great goals to aspire to. Granted, you can't achieve them all 100% of the time, and definitely don't stress about about that, because that would be impossible. You just do as much as you can do. And you can at least be mindful and aware, and make some changes in the directions you want to go. Every little change of habit is a step in the right direction. The more you know.
