Vegan burgers are definitely a thing and there are lots of delicious varieties of substitutes for meats.
From tofu to beets to portobello mushrooms to black bean patties… If you know where to go, you’re in for a treat.
So without further ado, here’s a quick guide to where you can find the best vegan burgers in Split!
1. Toto’s Burger Bar
Trumbiceva Obala 2
This is the number one top recommended burger bar on a lot of vegan food critic sites.
Their veggie burgers are made up of a yummy combination of delicately roasted veggies on top of thick juicy mushrooms, vegan coconut cheese and yoghurt garlic sauce.
Their highly trained staff will advise you on which vegan, dairy-free or gluten-free substitutes you can use as per your dietary requirements, if you want to pick anything else on the menu.
And to top it off, quite literally – their burgers have gluten free buns!
They’re a pretty affordable place, though the one downside is that they only accept cash.
2. Mr. Burgeric
Obala Lazareta 3
These guys are an above-average fast food joint that offers a plethora of vegetarian, vegan and gluten free options.
They only have one vegan burger available however.
But that’s OK, because it’s got portobello mushrooms in lieu of beef, and portobello mushrooms are great, right?
Unfortunately, there isn’t much seating available, but the location is still really cosy.
The outdoor seating area has high chairs and tables that are perfect for eating out in fair weather.
3. Marta’s Veggie Fusion
UI Kralja Petra Kresimira 8
Marta’s is a fusion restaurant and bar that serves all kinds of gorgeous raw food and vegan meals, desserts, and craft beer.
Their menu changes according to seasonal produce, which definitely earns them some eco-friendly points.
The vegan burger you’ll find here is a delightfully tasty and fresh red beet burger.
Marta’s is honestly a perfect place for anyone on a plant-based diet.
4. Green Caffe
Mall of Split, Josipa Jovica 93
If you’re not fussed about eating in the mall of Split, I thought I’d mention this tucked-away place as it’s a real gem.
Green Caffe does serve meat, but their vegan options (and their cakes) are definitely worth a taste.
They serve a vegan black bean burger, but also: vegan cheese pizza and vegan cheese tortellini, which come highly recommended.
They’re quite affordable, and honestly have a staggering amount of vegan options compared to most burger bars.
5. Vege Fast Food
Put Porta 2
This place is reputed to be the one essential stop for vegans in Split.
They have loads of rice and veg based meals including falafels; and their tasty vegan burger comes with a delicious tofu patty.
If you’re on a tight budget, this one is the most affordable of the lot!
